Keynote: Hyperakt

Deroy and Logan walk through the design process for branding Pete Buttigieg’s 2020 Presidential campaign. They will talk about the idea and our approach to creating democratic, participatory brands the public can be a part of. They’ll also talk about how we’ve applied some of the tactics we used for the campaign branding for projects outside of the political campaign arena. Zoom link will be sent via email prior to the event.

About Deroy:

A cheerleader, mentor, and motivator, Partner and Creative Director Deroy Peraza leads Hyperakt with a whole lot of heart. Celebrated by his team for building trust, providing room to play, and sparking creativity with his infectious optimism, Deroy pushes both the studio and our clients to be bold. His passion for design as a tool for social change was fueled by the politics that separated him from his country of birth and extended family: the political extremes between communist Cuba and conservative Miami. He has spent the past two decades designing brands and digital experiences for some of the world’s leading nonprofits, foundations, and social impact initiatives.

Deroy was a professor at Parsons The New School of Design (his alma mater) for four years, and has given talks for Brand New, AIGA, Type Directors Club, and the UN Refugee Agency. He and his family reside in central Brooklyn, where they keep busy playing soccer, hosting goofy family-band concerts, and fostering empathy and creativity for the next generation.

About Logan:

Lead designer Logan Emser is known in the studio as a great collaborator who’s dedicated to his craft. Logan’s creative approach is enriched by his constant extracurricular practice, historical research, and creative experimentation. His calming, supportive presence and sense of deep gratitude for life have led his teammates to describe him as “human sunshine.” In addition to his passion for design, Logan is a sports-lover who revels in the outdoors and delights in having Prospect Park as his (almost) back yard.
