The Results Are In!

We are excited to introduce AIGA West Michigan’s new executive board beginning June 2015. John O’Neill, Taylor Vanden Hoek, Elyse Flynn, and Jenny VanBemmelen will spend the next two years serving the members of AIGA West Michigan alongside the rest of the Board of Directors.

John O’Neill

Six years ago I joined AIGA West Michigan’s first board of directors. Over the years I have seen the design community grow and flourish. Before AIGA WM it felt like we were competitors and now it truly feels like we are a community of colleagues. I look forward to working with the new executive committee and the whole membership to continue making West Michigan a great place to be a designer.

Taylor Vanden Hoek
Vice President

AIGA has been a part of my life as a designer since 2003 and since then, has grown with me as I’ve developed and evolved into the designer I am today. I’ve had the honor of being part of AIGA West Michigan, as both a member and board member, since the beginning. I’m inspired to see our chapter be a continuous reflection of the Grand Rapids design community as it grows, evolves, and changes in the future.

I joined AIGA the same time I took my first type class and I’ve never looked back. Having served on the AIGA West Michigan board as a Programming Chair for the past three years, most recently in the role of the 2015 Leadership Retreat Chair, I’m excited to continue on as Secretary. Believing life is better spent collaborating I spend the majority of my time working as a designer at Design Design, a Grand Rapids-based social expression company, and a studio member at Not Design. Favorite special skills include: traditional letterpress printing and frosting typography.

I was born and raised in Muskegon, Michigan and moved to Grand Rapids after high school to attend college. I received my Bachelor and Master of Business Administration from Davenport University. While finishing up school, I was hired as an intern at Hungerford Nichols. The internship turned into a full-time position and I have been with the firm for the past four years. My services at the firm include employee benefit plan audits and tax return preparation. In my free time, I love spending time outdoors, especially near the lakeshore in the summer. I also enjoy spending time with my family and friends.
