Literally, here in Grand Rapids. AIGA West Michigan will host the AIGA National Leadership Retreat this May 28-30 at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel. More than 275 AIGA leaders from 70 chapters will attend this year’s retreat.
What is the Leadership Retreat?
This year, the retreat will focus on the future of AIGA and how members and chapters can engage in AIGA’s Strategic Framework 2015–2020 together. As a result of organizational changes and the transformative efforts of chapter leaders in recent years, AIGA now has the opportunity to empower members and chapters in new and exciting ways. Programs like AIGA Innovate and the 2020 Fund give members and chapters the chance to collaborate with each other, designers of other disciplines, local organizations, and others to develop truly innovative programs that will transform their communities. Ongoing initiatives like the new membership program, Design for Good, Women’s Leadership Initiative, Diversity and Inclusion Initiative, Living Principles, and more allow members and chapters to connect with each other and make an impact locally, regionally, and beyond.
Eight AIGA West Michigan board members will also be attending the Leadership Retreat, getting involved in discussions, and bringing back information for our chapter.
Want to get involved?
AIGA West Michigan is also set to host our first ever Member Design Capsule opening the week of the Leadership Retreat. The show will highlight the work of AIGA West Michigan members and show the depth, breadth, and quality of West Michigan Design; if you are interested in participating, you can find all the rules here. Submissions are due May 3rd and the opening reception will be held on Wednesday May 27 from 6-10 pm at The Harris Building.
AIGA members, we have a number of volunteer opportunities available all throughout the weekend to help make this amazing event run smoothly. You can host a tour, help with sessions during the day, represent at the after parties, spend a day as a social media ambassador, or help us make our first Member Design Capsule a success. Get in touch with us for more details: email@example.com.
Members will also be invited to mingle with Leadership Retreat attendees at the after parties hosted by AIGA West Michigan. Stay tuned for after party announcements and other fun events happening around town that weekend.
