Design Briefs Tip #011: Don’t be afraid to yellow card someone.

The schedule matters. More often than not, when you give someone a microphone, they’ll talk. Combine that with a passion for an idea they came up with themselves, and there’s a real danger of your event running too long. Don’t be afraid to set ground rules with your presenters, and a plan of how to enforce them live. Whether that’s red and yellow ‘wrap it up’ cards, or a timer that counts down, keeping to a set speaker timeframe respects your audiences other commitments.
